Asian Gay Films Dig Deeper on Prostitution

Vancouver International Film Festival, which kicked off last September, is hosting a bigger sum of gay-oriented films this year coming from countries in Asia as part of the Dragons and Tigers programme. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities are now gaining momentum in that specific continent and it is somewhat given that queer-interest films will be seen more and a lot more media representations of homosexual lifestyle will be emerging in the movie scene. The poor one, Jun, is an illegal North Korean immigrant who would try everything to earn money, even working for a very mean gas station owner ended up a sex seller out of desperation. The rich one, Hyeon, lives in an exclusive condo (as a gift to him from his “sugar daddy”), penetrated prostitution to rebel and feel excitement.

Although these films are not speaking in general, these gay Asian movies are not for all types of audiences. They are merely drawing what may and can be seen in the combination of money making and playing with fire.

US Gay Troops Fight Back

After the legislation has been passed and the policy of the army of the “Don’t ask don’t tell” policy has been junked another issue has come to the rise of gay troops suing the US government of not getting the same rights as their heterosexual counter parts. The lawsuit was filed last October 27 and it’s all about the defense of the Marriage act that violated their constitutional rights. Under the said law the Pentagon must treat gay troops as unmarried. Even if the union is legal and recognized the federal government doesn’t recognized gay marriages.

Lawsuit for Equal Rights and Army Benefits

The Gay troops are represented by the Service Members Legal Defense network which aims is to proactively recognize the sacrifices gay troops has done for the country in times of adversaries. Their goal is for their clients to have the same recognition, rights and benefits as for their heterosexual counterparts. The network says that these couples are in long-term committed relationships and are legally binded by marriage which the federal government still fails to recognize it doesn’t only affect men and women of the service but also their families especially their children. A lot of children of the member of the US Army aren’t entitled to get the same access to health care and other benefits a straight solder does. All the troops wants it to get the credit and the same rights their straight counter-parts get easy access without being put in the dark. They have the sentiments that they shed sweat, blood and tears for the country they are even willing to sacrifice their life for the country but it seems hard for them to get the fair and equal rights they deserve.

Gay Troops Giving All Their Might

A lot of the members of the third sex and who rendered service for the Military have come forward since the policy of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” has been junked and now they are faced with new challenges not only them are involve but also the future of their families too. Like Lead Plaintiff Major Shannon Mclaughlin of the Massachusetts National Guard who has been married and is currently raising two twin girls. He says that he has dedicated his life to the Army and it saddens him to think that he’s daughters   won’t be able to have the privileges bestowed to his heterosexual counter parts. Hope a fair resolution will come to pass real soon about the gay troop’s ordeal and their families not getting a fair share of the rights that they should also have passage with.
